Rain, damp, aches, pains and that moody feeling that comes over you on this kind of day. My flight is not until 5:30. Unusual for me as I usually leave on early morning flights. I have time to settle up my last bit of business and make some phone calls to friends.
I said my goodbye to Sarah as she left for work. As with much of my life, I have that ambiguity of feelings. I am happy to travel, yet said to be leaving my home, Sarah and our kitty. I made sure Pearl had a nice bowl of tuna fish and fresh water, along with dry food.
I will be making my way to Newark airport by public transportation and Amtrak. Luckily it was not raining as I left the house and headed for the train on Union Street. My bag is a bit heavier than normal as I had to bring some extra clothes for layering. The elevation is high which leads to cooler temperatures. Speaking of high altitude, I am hoping the altitude pills I got from Dr. McMeeking will do the trick. As always, I travel with a small medicine bag, pain killers, stomach pills for intestinal problems, Tylenol, and of course antibiotics. I am prepared---Hopefully!
The train ride to Penn station is painless. I wait about 40 minutes and board the Amtrak to Newark Airport where I take the Air Train to Terminal A. I look at the board and follow the signs to American Airlines. I have my boarding pass so I proceed straight to the gate. Only three people ahead of me to go through security. A welcome difference from JFK. I pass through everything is fine. I have a couple of hours to kill so I make my way to Phillips Seafood Bar.
I have a nice bowl of lobster bisque with some awesome waffle fries. No, no booze, I will save that when I get to Miami and have a three hour layover. I am alternating between watching a show on my iPad and checking out CNN.
Waiting for the plane to begin boarding, I decide to make a bathroom stop. I wash my hands good, get some water and notice a long line waiting to board. Lo and behold there is a separate, first served line for priority boarding. I used my miles for a first class upgrade and made my way pass the horde and immediately got scanned and permitted to board. The looks, yells and the screams as I bypassed The barbarian horde and made my way to my first class seat where I was greeted with champagne. Bill would have been proud.
I'm on my way.....
